AI agents are rapidly moving from experimentation to real operational workflows, but their non-deterministic behavior introduces new security risks. The open-source agent platform NanoClaw recently integrated with Docker Sandboxes, enabling agents to run inside micro-VM environments rather than traditional containers. This adds a second isolation boundary: each agent runs in its own container, and those containers run inside a micro-VM with its own kernel, preventing agents from interacting with the host system.
For CISOs, the takeaway is that AI agent security cannot rely on the agent behaving correctly. Instead, security must be enforced through architectural controls such as sandboxing, runtime isolation, and governance layers. As autonomous agents become more capable—and organizations increasingly allow them to operate with minimal human intervention—containing risk through strong isolation will be foundational to safely unlocking AI productivity.
