Many technology careers begin with a fascination for systems. Valene Skerpac, CISSP, CISM, CCISO‘s began with a deeper question about responsibility. What does it mean to build systems people must trust?
That instinct followed her into a career in technology and security leadership. Today she serves as Founder and CEO at Security CThink LLC, where she advises organizations navigating the intersection of digital innovation and enterprise risk.
Over the course of her career, Skerpac has led security engineering teams, advised global institutions, and guided organizations through complex questions about resilience and protection. One formative chapter came while leading a technology security company developing monitoring systems designed to protect the public. The experience sharpened her view that security is most effective when it is embedded into how systems are designed rather than applied after problems appear.
That perspective continues to shape her leadership philosophy. Security leaders, in her view, must translate risk in ways that executives understand while building teams capable of operating independently and exercising sound judgment under pressure.
At SIM NY Metro, Skerpac values the exchange of perspective that comes from a community of experienced technology leaders. Conversations with peers often sharpen thinking in ways formal frameworks cannot.
Her outlook remains measured. The future of cybersecurity will depend not only on stronger technology, but on leaders capable of guiding organizations through uncertainty with clarity and discipline.
