AI-driven “vibe coding” is accelerating software development at an unprecedented pace by generating code from ordinary language. This has come at a significant security cost.
Recent research found that roughly one in three AI-generated applications contains serious vulnerabilities, with exposed secrets and exploitable flaws already present in thousands of live systems. Compared to human-written code, AI-generated code introduces materially higher rates of security, logic, and quality issues—highlighting a widening gap between speed and secure engineering discipline.
The implication for security leaders is that AI-assisted development must be treated as a high-risk input, not a trusted output. Organizations that succeed will not abandon AI, but will operationalize controls around it—embedding automated security scanning, enforcing human review for sensitive logic, and adopting “agentic engineering” models that combine AI speed with structured oversight. The next wave of breaches will likely come from unchecked AI-generated code—and the advantage will go to those who build security into the pipeline, not after deployment.
