The increased sophistication of hackers and need for upping our game to slow bad actors is well underway as seen in recent cybercrime takedowns that are unintentionally teaching adversaries how to become more resilient. As law enforcement and industry disrupt platforms, expose infrastructure, and publicize tactics, threat actors rapidly absorb these lessons—hardening defenses, improving vetting, and evolving tradecraft. This “tactical exposure” dynamic is accelerating attacker sophistication, particularly as cybercrime operations become more coordinated and well-funded.
At the same time, defenders are adapting. Leading organizations and law enforcement are shifting toward quieter, intelligence-driven disruption strategies—introducing friction, distrust, and operational instability without fully revealing methods. The result is an ongoing cat-and-mouse game where success is measured not just by takedowns, but by increasing attacker cost and slowing their ability to operate at scale.
