Google’s Timeline for Post Quantum Computing Migration

4/7/26 Google announced a 2029 timeline to migrate to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) to secure the quantum era addressing security threats and providing for crypto agility.

PQC offered by Google helps address the threats of store-now-decrypt-later attacks and a future threat to digital signatures that require the transition to PQC prior to a Cryptographically Relevant Quantum Computer (CRQC).

Crypto-agility lets organizations adapt quickly to new cryptographic standards and respond to emerging threats without disrupting operations. It provides flexibility that enables organizations to switch between cryptographic algorithms and protocols as required, providing for long-term resilience and trustworthiness. Important to security, it allows continuous, adaptive risk mitigation helping to ensure that organizations can quickly pivot and reprioritize in response to evolving security threats.
